2015 ECCCNYS for Residential Buildings

After completing the course, attendees will:

  1. Understand the major changes between the Energy Conservation Construction Code of 2010 and the Energy Conservation and Construction Code of 2015.
  2. Be able to use the ECCC 2015 to resolve questions and issues that arise during plan review, field inspection, and in addressing questions posed by builders, design professionals, and others.
  3. Recognize the relationship between Energy Code provisions and best building practices – “the whys” behind the ECCC NYS code provisions.

This course is designed to be an engaging and enlightening training session that will help code officials gain a better understanding of salient code changes in the 2015 ECCCNYS and most importantly, how to find answers to questions that may arise during the course of their typical day-to-day activities. Rather than enumerate a series of code provisions on wordy slides, this course develops examples that illustrate certain residential provisions of the code and engage the group by posing questions or creating short exercises that attendees carry out individually or in small groups. Pictures from actual job sites will be used to illustrate non-compliant, good, better, best implementation practices to give code officials a solid understanding of what they should be looking for as they perform field inspections. Sample building plan sheets and details will be shown as a basis of how and where energy information might be provided in construction documents, thereby giving code officials the means to offer solutions when they receive incomplete information with the building permit application. Short videos will be incorporated into the presentation to provide some understanding of how envelope and duct leakage tests are performed as well as examples of typical problem areas – for instance, properly air sealing party walls in townhomes.
